The book is based on an exhibition held at the world’s leading tribal or non-Western art museum, the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, and features highlights of the museum’s acquisitions for its collections over the last twenty years. The pages are filled with dozens of high-quality photographs of the items, from South America to Africa, to the Middle East, to Oceania, include ritual items carved from wood, jewellery, textiles and so on. And as is typical of the Musée du Quai Branly, most of the items are the finest examples of their type available. The images are accompanied by brief essay’s by the Museum’s curators on the objects, the thinking behind their acquisitions, and provenance.
